The story of Mizu

The story of Mizu

The word Mizu means “water” in Japanese, and the chest was designed with the same sense of calm and containment. Inspired by traditional tansu chests, the piece uses exposed dovetail joints and hand-fitted brass handles. Built in a Kyoto workshop by two carpenters who have collaborated for over three decades, each chest is assembled slowly, with meticulous attention to how the grain runs across the panels.
